Schools will identify students with high ability and provide them with opportunities to learn and take part in competitions such as various Olympiads.
Examples include the
- Raffles Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) by Raffles Institution
- Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) by Hwa Chong Institution
- National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore (NMOS) by NUS High
- Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO)
While most of the local Olympiads require school registration, there are also many Olympiads open to private candidates.
How to sign up
I’ve heard that some tuition centres help their students sign up for Olympiads. But you can also register for your child on your own through the Singapore International Mastery Contests Centre (SIMCC). (of course, only if they are interested)
They run different Math, Science, and STEAM competitions across the year, so it’s worth keeping an eye on their website or Facebook page for registration dates.
The competitions available to register via SIMCC are:
- AMC - Australian Mathematics Competition
- AMO American Math Olympiad
- BEBRAS - International Challenge on Informatics and Computational Thinking
- NJIO - Design Thinking with Robotics & Computational Thinking International Competition
- NJCO - National Junior CyberSecurity Olympiad
- SASMO - Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad

- IJAO - International Junior Art Olympiad
- SMC - Singapore Math Challenge
- SIMOC - Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge
- SMKC - Singapore Math Kangaroo Contest
- VANDA - National Junior Science Olympiad
