For calculator, your child’s school booklist will usually specify the recommended model. From the many different school booklists I’ve come across, all listed the CASIO fx-97SG-X, which is also the model my daughter is currently using. Been a few years and it is still working well.
For e-dictionaries, some schools list recommended model(s) in their booklist, while others do not. If you're unsure which one to purchase (given the many options available in the market), you might want to consider Besta All Pass S2.
This is actually the second e-dictionary I purchased for my daughter. The first one I bought for her was a fancy model with a big full-colour screen that looked like a handphone, but it spoiled just after the one-year warranty ended, and repairing it wasn’t worthwhile. My daughter tried her friends' Besta and liked it, so we quickly bought one from Popular as it was urgent. If not, I would have ordered from Shopee instead for better pricing.
Also, you can consider bringing your child to a Popular store to try out the different models and see which one they prefer. This is important, as your child will be the one using it, for many years to come.
Other models that I see from the book lists of different schools are:
- Besta ALL PASS 6 (Most common) (Difference between this and All Pass S2 is that this is black/white, while S2 is coloured)
- Creative Knowledge HansVision PX2281, PX2231, PX2221
You can also refer to PSLE Approved Calculators and E-Dictionaries for the list of all approved models.
