Have you ever wondered why your child is the way he or she is?

Or do you sometimes wish someone could tell you what your child’s natural talents are, so that you can nurture them in the right way instead of sending your child to all sorts of lessons, hoping to find the right fit?

I often ask myself these questions and wonder how much I truly know about my daughter. Am I parenting her in the right way? Am I nurturing her to the best of my ability, in a way that suits her nature, and guiding her in the right direction?

Earlier this year, I came across something that gave me many answers I needed (BACKED BY SCIENCE), and I couldn’t help but wish I had found it earlier...

I have been my daughter's main caregiver since the day she was born. At times, I feel I know her inside out. Sometimes, I can see traits that she inherited from my husband and me. Yet there are also moments when I simply cannot explain certain things about her.

I am the kind of person who always looks for reasons or logical explanations behind what happens. I seek understanding and closure. There are things I notice about my daughter that I cannot explain, and I often wish someone could tell me why she is the way she is.

Some of our challenges:

Even though she has not much issue academically, can spell many words and learns spelling quickly, she struggles to spell words out verbally. Her writing speed is also slower compared to her peers.

Since young, she can be very talkative. Yet when asked a question, especially one that requires her opinion, she takes a long time to think. This habit affects her performance during oral exams because she pauses for very long before answering. Sometimes teachers assume she does not know the answer and skip to the next question. I often wondered why, but could not find a clear explanation.

The problem is this: there are things she is perfectly capable of doing, yet within those same abilities, there are parts she struggles with. It can be confusing and, at times, quite frustrating. The last thing I ever want is to lose my patience with her, but when pressure builds (such as oral exams) the areas she finds difficult can cause frustration for both of us. Without truly understanding what is going on, it becomes hard to know how best to help her.

I chanced upon the DNA talent profiling test and was intrigued by how it could provide insights into my daughter’s natural strengths, character traits, and learning preferences. I couldn’t contain my curiosity, so I decided to try it out.

The test unlocks children's inborn potential by a comprehensive genetic analysis of 50 personal traits in the area of talents, IQ, EQ, personality and overall wellness.

Through this test, I finally found many answers to the questions that had puzzled me for years. It gave me new insights and a deeper understanding of my daughter.

In the report, each trait in the report is rated on four levels: Below Average, Average, Above Average, and Excellent.

(some sample from her report)

I now understand that her academic strengths come from her above-average long-term memory, mathematical ability, and excellent level of conscientiousness. Her strength in mathematics was already evident when she could do simple division at three years old. This DNA test confirmed that these abilities are naturally part of who she is.

When it comes to writing or spelling words verbally, the test showed that she has a below-average level in spelling. I believe her strong long-term memory helps to make up for this weakness and lessens its impact on her academic performance.

For her struggles with speaking, especially during oral exams or when expressing opinions, the report revealed that she has an above-average level of “Avoidance of Error” and a below-average level of “Problem-Solving Skill.” I had always noticed how she hesitated because she wanted to be sure of her answers.

Reading through the results deepened my understanding of nature versus nurture. Even if she isn’t born with a natural talent in certain areas, her passion and consistent effort can still help her progress. With love, patience, and encouragement, nurturing can truly complement nature.

Now that I know where her strengths lie (by test results) and by combining that knowledge with her passions (by our observations), we can focus on choosing enrichment lessons that best align with her abilities. This way, she can continue to grow in areas that truly suit her and reach her fullest potential.

With the knowledge that her verbal and visual memory function at similar levels, I can now better assist her in learning and guide her on the most effective ways to revise.

By understanding that her challenges are genuine and not caused by unwillingness or laziness, I’ve come to see her in a deeper way. I now have more patience and empathy when guiding her. If only I had done this test earlier, I would have focused more on nurturing her reading and writing skills, and perhaps created more opportunities for her to make mistakes much earlier in life.

But it’s still not too late. With these insights in mind, I will continue to guide her according to her needs and keep learning to be a better mummy for her. 💗

These are just some examples of the test results that have given me the insights and answers. I also signed up for the Nutrition DNA test, which helped me understand the types of nutrients her body needs based on her genetic profile. The results gave me useful insights into what to pay attention to in her diet and how to better support her overall well-being.
