The way I support my daughter in her education is deeply shaped by my own childhood and schooling experience. I often find myself reflecting on what I might’ve done differently back then. And now, with the benefit of hindsight (after her recent graduation from primary school) I also reflect on our journey together and the things I might have done better as a parent.

I came from a neighbourhood primary school and later attended what many at the time called an "ah beng" secondary school. My daughter also began her journey in a neighbourhood primary school, but she’s now in an IP school. Our paths may be different, yet each has its own value and lessons.

That’s why I’ve decided to start documenting my reflections and the things I’m learning along the way, before these memories fade with time. This space isn’t just for me to process and remember, but also something tangible for her to look back on one day. A little time capsule of her childhood, and a reminder of our shared journey.

What I share here is personal, drawn from real experiences, lessons learned, and the highs and lows of parenting through the school years. I’m writing to capture her primary school memories, and to reflect with hindsight on what I believed in, what worked, what didn’t, and what I might do differently if I had the chance to do it all over again.

If you’re a parent reading this in search of relatable stories or perspectives, I hope something here resonates with you. Every child and family is different, so what worked for us may not be the perfect fit for you, and that’s okay. Take what’s helpful, trust your instincts, and explore what works best for your own child and family.
